Loco-Motion: ParAllel Visions

FICTIONAL LANDSCAPES - MOVING TRAIN SERIES #2
In my photo series, Locomotion: Parallel Visions, I’ve captured fictional panoramic snippets of the world as I moved through the landscape on fast-moving trains. The camera stitches together multiple images as the train hurries on, and the software compiles an invented, finished image that differs from what I saw through the train window; I later refine these versions of the world using computer software, adding and subtracting color and changing a few small details in the finished artworks.

I love the distortion of reality in this process, which differs from standard photography, including the verticality of the train tracks and the ground plane, the warping caused by the train's movement, and the duplication of elements, especially the cloud details and other vertical elements. It is interesting how the imperfect technology of this process echoes how our brains perceive time and space through our selective lens of personal experiences and collective memories, linking the past to the present and distorting time and space.
